Division IV Boys District: PCL teams are beaten

WAPAKONETA -- There was only a two-point difference in the final scores at the Division IV boys district tournament in Wapakoneta Tuesday night.

Unfortunately for Ottoville and Fort Jennings, that two-point difference was between the winning teams -- Fort Recovery and New Breman.

Fort Recovery beat Ottoville 57-44 in the first game of the district. New Bremen went one basket better in the second game, beating Fort Jennings by an almost identical 59-44 margin.

New Bremen (19-3) and Fort Recovery (19-3), who shared the Midwest Athletic Conference title with Delphos St. John's, will square off for the district championship Friday at 7 p.m. Ottville ends its season at 11-11 and Fort Jennings at 11-12.

Craig Tobe scored 22 points in Fort Recovery's win over Ottoville. Greg Kahlig, a 6-foot-5 forward who will play his college ball at the University of Findlay, added 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Wade Gelhaus added 10 points for the Indians, who took control of the game with a 32-19 edge in the second and third quarters.

Scott Pohlman led Ottoville with 18 points. Keith Pohlman chipped in nine points for the Big Green and Alex Altenburger pulled down six rebounds.

In the second game, New Bremen opened a 14-9 edge in the first quarter and padded its lead with an 11-6 rally in the third. Caleb Williams scored 17 points, Justin Eilerman 16 and Andy Timmerman 11 for the Wildcats.

Jared Horstman led Fort Jennings with 16 points and Drew Mesker had 13.

A complete boxscore was not provided on the Fort Jennings contest.
