Hancock Co. Crop Yields Impressive Despite Drought

Despite 2012's drought, Hancock County was referred to as the "garden spot" in the state of Ohio by Extension Educator Ed Lentz. Lentz spoke at the annual Farmers' Share Breakfast Thursday morning..

Hancock County ranked second for soybean production in the state, fifth for corn production and fourth for wheat production last year. Lentz said what helped make the numbers look good in Hancock County was the acres planted..

Usually about 38,000 to 40,000 acres of wheat are planted in the county. Last year wheat acres totaled about 18,000.
