City And County Talking About Parking Lots Again

Friday, March 22, 2013 - 5:09 AM

The city of Findlay and Hancock County are once again in discussions about parking.  At Tuesday's city council meeting the group agreed to have Service-Safety Director Paul Schmelzer negotiate with the county, with the stipulation council has final say on signing off on anything.  The Hancock County commissioners have asked about buying Findlay's West Hardin Street Parking lot just east of the Trinity Episcopal Church.  The county would then allow more space for city workers to park in a lot north of the Findlay Municipal building just off of West Main Cross.

Two years ago the two sides talked about a property swap that ultimately went nowhere.  That failed deal would have seen the city take over the flood damaged buildings on Dorney Plaza in exchange for two lots on Hardin Street.  The idea at the time was for the city to tear down the buildings to make room for possible municipal building expansions in the future.
