Putnam Co. Sheriff Worried About People Ignoring High Water Signs

Friday, April 19, 2013 - 5:09 AM

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office hasn't made it a habit to ticket people who drive around warning signs and get stuck in high water during floods, but that might be changing. The Lima News reports Sheriff Mike Chandler says drivers are getting complacent because there has been so much flooding over the past few years. He adds since 2007 the sheriff's office has had to attempt 15 high water rescues, including seven where there were children in the car. Three people have died after driving into high waters in the county since 2007.

Chandler says he'll be asking county and township workers to put out "road closed" signs along with "high water signs."
