With the help of the United Way of Hancock County, area families were able to bring millions of dollars back into the community in the form of income tax returns. Director John Urbanski talked about the benefits tax preparation services gave to residents making less than $60,000 a year. He says the money they got back from the government was crucial... Urbanski says that's not only dollars that help out families, but area businesses as well, which in turn gets reinvested into the community through sales taxes... (Audio Below)
Urbanski added that more than $676,000 of the money that came back to the area was in the form of the Earned Income Tax credit, which many people don't realize they qualify for.
