Findlay Elks Mark Flag Day

Past Elks Exalted Ruler Jeff Jenson opened the Flag Day Ceremony on the front lawn of the Elks Lodge on South Main St. Friday at Noon. The story of how the U.S. flag evolved was told along with the posting of the various banners that represented the country up until the basic design we are all familiar with today..

Flag Day has a special significance in Findlay, Ohio. Findlay was named the Flag Capital of the United States on June 14, 1968 and was the inspiration of Findlay resident John B. Cooke. The Flag City USA declaration came on May 7, 1974 by House Joint Resolution 1003, introduced by Congressman Tennyson Guyer.
