The combination of positions in the city of Findlay at the beginning of 2012, has placed the Service-Safety Director as the top earner in city government. According to a special report in this morning's Courier, Service-Safety Director Paul Schmelzer earned just under $117,800 for his normal duties and also for serving as the engineer for most of the year. Findlay Mayor Lydia Mihalik said she is confident that the city is getting an incredible return on its investment. A handful of other supervisors and several firefighters' overtime payments placed them on a top-20 list compiled by the auditor's office at the request of the newspaper. Collectively, the top 20 made just over $908,000

Law Director Don Rasmussen was the second highest earning just over $101,300 and Findlay Municipal Court Administrator David Beach was third at just under $98,200
