Monday, June 17, 2013                                          4:30 AM

You may be surprised to know the amount of unclaimed funds owed to residents of Hancock County. The Ohio Department of Commerce reports that nearly $7 million in dormant or forgotten money has been handed to the state during the previous year. These funds come from a variety of sources, such as dormant checking and savings accounts, forgotten rent and utility deposits, uncashed checks, undelivered stocks, and uncashed insurance policies. A special insert will appear in Tuesday's edition of the Courier. A comprehensive list is available online at unclaimed funds treasure hunt.ohio.gov.
